Oluwademilade Omoregie is a Non-Binary Queer Nigerian-Black Artist from New Jersey who specializes in filmmaking, photography, and digital/acrylic painting. Their work is inspired by their journey of curiosity; every medium learned is a new story to tell or a new way to tell an old one. To them, art is alchemizing memory into creation; it’s a way to honor everything that they love. Demilade creates dreamlike, surreal, introspective compositions as a way to show admiration for all things in life they love. Inspired by their love of comic books, films, nature, and their spiritual history, Demilade creates works that focus on Blackness in an ethereal lens.

Demilade’s uses surrealism as a way to critique the broad art community and whiteness today. Art has become victim to pretentiousness and elitism, which has made it a nigh impossible task for those who need it the most to partake in it, something Demilade experienced firsthand while teaching Art & Film in Newark. Oluwademilade hopes with their art to create odes to the beauty and absurdness of Black life and inspire others to do the same.
